Relax in the sauna and hot tub after a wonderful day in the mountains when you stay at Chalet Alterra, a high-end chalet for 12 in the Portes du Soleil.
You’ll be just 800m from the centre of Châtel, and even closer (200m) from the ski lifts (Télésiège du Petit Châtel), which will take you up to the vast Portes du Soleil ski area. This superb location gives you easy access to a wide range of activities, at any time of year.
Châtel is known for its charm and traditional mountain architecture, but it also has a wide selection of shops and restaurants, and all the facilities you’d expect from a modern resort. The village, which is less than a two-hour drive from Geneva Airport, has been awarded the Famille Plus label for its programme of activities and services for children and young families, and its altitude means you can expect good snow cover in the winter.
About the property…
Chalet Alterra is a three-storey property for up to 12 people, including 10 adults. Its five bedrooms all have en-suite bathrooms.
The ground floor houses the practical facilities, including a two-car garage, a cycle store, and a ski room with heated boot dryers.
On the first floor are four bedrooms. Three of them are double rooms with a king-size bed, which all open onto a balcony and have an en-suite shower room with a toilet. The fourth bedroom has two single beds and a set of bunk beds, making it perfect for four people, including two children. This room has a private bathroom with a bath and toilet. The sauna is also on this floor, as well as a TV room, which has a sofa bed as well as an en-suite bathroom with a toilet. This room can be used as a bedroom, but the total number of guests should not exceed 12.
On the second floor, the spacious living area is arranged around a central fireplace. Get together on the comfortable sofas and armchairs, or step out onto the furnished balcony to admire the view. The well-equipped kitchen has a breakfast bar with stools, where you can enjoy a snack before heading out for the day. There is also a large dining table where you can all eat together in the evenings. Doors open from here onto the terrace, where you can relax in the hot tub. The fifth bedroom is on this floor, and has a king-size bed, a desk as well as its own bathroom and toilet.
About the area...
Châtel is located in the beautiful Abondance Valley, on the French-Swiss border, and just 1 hour 30 minutes from Geneva Airport. This friendly village is known for its traditional charm and architecture, while also offering a good range of shops, restaurants and modern facilities. Châtel holds the Famille Plus label for its children’s entertainment programme and family-friendly infrastructure.
In winter, this Portes du Soleil resort is connected to Avoriaz, Torgon, and Morgins via several ski lifts, and its altitude ensures good snow coverage. The resort features a snowpark, a boardercross course and a beginner area, as well as slopes for intermediate and advanced skiers, and multiple ski touring routes around the village.
During the rest of the year, cyclists can enjoy the surrounding mountain roads, while Châtel’s bike park offers 20 mountain biking trails. Hikers can explore approximately 400km of trails across 48 circuits. Lake Vonnes, just 1km from the village, is perfect for fishing and paddleboarding. Other activities include climbing, paragliding, via ferrata, tennis, rafting, kayaking, and the Fantasticable zip line which soars over the valley at 100km/h.

An exceptional chalet in Châtel
We’ve just had an unforgettable stay in this chalet and would recommend it without a moment’s hesitation.
The space is generous and the décor tasteful – you can tell a designer’s hand is in it, yet the atmosphere remains warm and authentic. Ideal for an unforgettable holiday with friends or family.
The kitchen is equipped just as a real chef would dream of. The beds, bedding, cushions, showers – everything is on a par with a top-of-the-range establishment. You arrive on holiday and leave feeling refreshed.
And the view… it’s breathtaking, morning and evening.
“We can’t recommend this chalet enough”
We stayed at Chalet Alterra in Châtel with our 4-year-old son, and it was a fantastic experience. The chalet is beautifully designed and incredibly cosy, with excellent facilities and modern technology throughout. The fireplace, outdoor jacuzzi, and in-house sauna were our absolute favourites.
The location is exceptional, within walking distance of all the village highlights. The large garage and dedicated ski and boot storage room also made everything very practical.

The chalet is absolutely beautiful and decorated with great taste! Each room has its own en suite bathroom; the living room is spacious and bright with stunning views. Everything is new and modern. It is also well located and close to the village centre.
